As Doug Chin can testify to, I went off on a rant how the SF Giants are not going to be on TBS's national telecast of Sunday Day Baseball in the first months. Or how ESPN is not airing a single SF Giants spring training game. After all, the 2010 World Series did happen right?
He responded with the network's rationale of ratings. More people will watch Red Sox-Yankees. True. But seriously, who gives an F how much money ESPN makes off of ratings? The common sports fan should not. Then what should your root for? Whatever the hell you want to watch on TV.
Personally, I know I'm going to be in the Bay Area during baseball season. Hence, I don't want the Giants on national TV. Give me 162 games of Kruk and Kuip on CSN Bay Area. Now if I was in Boston as a displaced Giants fan? I would be pissed they aren't on national TV every other weekend.
Root for yourself and your sports TV situation. If you have Directv and every single sports channel, then root for the scenario that will bring you your favorite sportscasters.
What's my bottom line? The Giants-Rangers World Series was what I wanted to see last Orange October (duh) and I couldn't care less about what the nation was saying about baseball's TV ratings. And Neither should you. EVER.
So with that in mind, feel free to root against Duke this March. Don't be happy with them advancing because CBS will get higher ratings because people will want to watch Duke. Hate them and have Hampton going all the way? Then go ahead with the Screw Duke campaign. I know Ahmed is.
